According to Babiniotis it is a μικρή, συνήθως, υπόγεια ταβέρνα όπου προσφέρεται κυρίως  βαρελίσιο κρασί συχνά με φαγητό σε χαμηλές τιμές. From the Turkish kütük meaning a log or tree stump, and the expression kütük gıbı (= blind drunk).
