Yesterday we assembled at the Dirty Glass to shake off the summer torpor and prepare for this Sunday’s session. And we were rusty!Fortunately, as only a few practice items were chosen, we had time to repeat them and pick up speed. Present were Vasilis (guitar), Petros (injured guitarist), Giannis (accordion), Gregory (standard & low whistles), Andy (whistles and harmonicas), Kathleen (bodhran), and Luke (fiddle).
I have been a member of www.thesession.org for over 20 years but I have never uploaded a tune. It wasn’t a smooth process, but I have finally managed to upload a tune that wasn’t in the site’s collection. Usually, if you look for a tune, you will find several versions. For example, the popular jig, Morrison’s, has been uploaded eleven times. I think the site needs a clean-up. Anyway, by chance, I found a jig called the Old Man’s Delight (#85 in O’Neill’s DMI). I made a few modifications on an ABC music editor, asked a friend to provide the chords, and then I uploaded it! Within 24 hours, someone else had provided another version in a different key and with chords that did not correspond to Barnacle Bob’s, my chord provider. Anyway, here is my contribution: https://thesession.org/tunes/22221
Human error is a big issue in music editing. My version is in A and the new submission is two semi-tones lower, so the key should be G. Inexplicably, the uploader has decided it is D. Barnacle Bob has been quick to put him in his place! Whether, the miscreant will correct it or not is another issue.
