26/001 Life in Northern Greece

After a fallow January, I’m back. Four reasons for the silence. First, I was in London and Ireland for Christmas and New Year. Secondly my subscription to Write-Away-Salonika expired. Third, a bout of the Winter lurgies struck. It was bad enough to force the postponement of reason #4: surgery.

My time in London convinced me that I was no longer “urban fit”. The Victorian underground stations without lifts or escalators were a trial, as was the Victorian theatre where I had to climb several flights to find my seat. Dublin was easier, but I want to be fit enough for urban walking.

With that in mind, and in the hope of a quicker recovery, I opted for a total knee replacement using robotic surgery with a machine called CORI. Till now, the results are encouraging. Within two weeks I was walking (ie limping) unaided. And at the end of the third week, I was able to drive. My physio will pay one more visit next week, and that’s it.

Anyway, I’m back and I hope to post more frequently in 2026.
