Irish Music Scene & Life in Northern Greece 13/2021

Despite the country opening up to tourism and despite the increasing air of normality, there has been a steady decrease in Covid. Today’s figures are 1,007 new cases, 41 dead and 480 in intensive care. Of the new cases, only one was detected at a border entry point. The press seems puzzled that over half the new cases are in the Athens area. I wonder why. Almost half the population lives in Athens and Piraeus. In fact, the population density of Athens is over 17,000 people per square kilometre, whereas the country average is 83/km2. It is, therefore, a wonder that the infection rate is not much higher in the capital area.

We went to The Dubliner for a pint of the black stuff just over a week ago. We met one of the participants of the Malta Sessions. It was unreal. The guy lives locally, we met him months ago on a Zoom session organised by people in Malta, but only got round to meeting him in the flesh last week.

Our own practice sessions continue to go well. I like to throw in something new each week so that we are not restricted only to band practice items. This week we combined a slip jig and a reel, The Foxhunters and The Boyne Hunt respectively. And now to this week’s treat. This couple are growing on me: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QTbs02yBD3o
