Irish Music Scene Episode #9

Last night’s and last week’s practices were limited to three people, two old-hands and a new guitarist. So, they were technical get-togethers to see how the guitarist was coping with unfamiliar material as he is new to Irish music. I’m pleased to say he’s coping very well. The last two practices have concentrated solely on instrumentals. Next week we’ll have a fuller practice dedicated to the songs.

I’ll need to find out what the latest is on Covid. Walking along the seafront on Friday evening, I noticed that two small ensembles (two or three band members) were setting up their sound-systems. Also, on Thursday night in our building’s garden, we had a three-piece band and around thirty people gathered for a pre-wedding party. I think the father of the bride had obtained police permission. Moreover, the afore-mentioned were also open-air events. We have the possibility of doing a semi-open session in Thessaloniki but I don’t know if the proprietor would get police permission for that. By semi-open I mean we are inside but all the windows have been rolled to the sides so we would be playing off the street.
