We ended April with a gig in the Dubliner. Not our best. We started and finished strongly, but we were patchy in the middle. The pace of life, distances, crap public transport, the impossibility of parking in the city, and family commitments can all get in the way of practice. Our lack of practice – and maybe the reluctance to be seen with a music stand in front of you – both contributed to cock-ups. Anyway, as I have just said, we finished strongly and, for the second successive gig, we got an encore. We also received several requests for songs. In that regard, we have put together a list of songs that we should be able to add to our repertoire.

Finally, I have to report, regrettably, that I’m not getting anywhere with regard to establishing a session network of players from Greece, Bulgaria, Romania and Serbia. I noticed that on www.thesession.org someone mentioned my name to a ‘sessioneer’ in Serbia, but he hasn’t contacted me. It looks as if I am going to have to phone Irish bars in Sofia, Bucharest, Belgrade and further afield.
