Irish Music Scene & Life in Northern Greece 3/2021

Just a couple of questions on the Epiphany diving accident I mentioned in my last post. The report below does not really give much information, and most of the pertinent questions are raised in comments following the article: https://www.iefimerida.gr/ellada/amarynthos-tetrapligia-24hronos-boytixe-theofania

  • Why did the dive take place given there was a ban?
  • Was the dive moved to Amarynthos to avoid police detection?
  • Did anybody inspect the depth of the water ahead of the dive? Apparently, the depth was between 1m and 1.5m.
  • Will the church, whose priest is responsible for this accident, pay for the lifelong medical care and rehabilitation this poor young lad will require?

Thursday, 14th January. Covid cases and fatalities continue their downward curve. There were only 69 cases recorded today in Thessaloniki and under 600 in the whole country. Using deaths per million, how does Greece compare with its neighbours and the Big 4 in Europe? Numbers are taken from: https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/  It is clear that the country has managed the crisis well.

CountryDeaths per Million
Greece518
North Macedonia1,283
Albania438
Bulgaria1,206
Turkey277
UK1,245
France1,056
Germany537
Italy1,338

Musically, our first practice on 9th January went very well. All six of us showed up including our Bulgarian exile. We stuck to our limited goal. Our friend in Angelohori – which he calls Lost Angeles – was able to take part without too many connectivity problems. Tomorrow at 11am is our next one.
