26/003 Irish Music in Northern Greece – Easter

I must bow to Greek reality. Easter is a write-off. As mentioned before, our Palm Sunday session a couple of years ago was poorly attended; both player participation and audience numbers were low. This year we tried St. Thomas’s Day (the Sunday after Easter for any Heathens reading this) with even worse results. Our worst ever musician attendance with only six of us. However, I must admit that in session terms, six is a good number.

Next year, Orthodox Easter will fall on May 2nd, so I will postpone the May 9th session till May 16th… if, of course, we are still in operation. We’re finding it hard to recruit people. I notice on our Viber group, several people read the posts even though they seldom or never come to play. So, my 2026 project is to recruit more people and, especially, an enthusiast who knows and loves the music, and who can edit music on ABC.

As the summer approaches, we have our next session on May 10th, the Athens Irish Festival, 12th – 14th June, and our final session in June (probably 21st) before the summer heat. I believe there is also a festival on Antipaxos, one of the Ionian islands, in early July. I will try to attend. Then there is a break till September.

Hope our session this Sunday is a success.
