Our May session was even more disappointing than April’s. Five musicians and a near empty bar. After the session, I spoke with the manager, and we decided to kick the June session into touch. So, no more sessions till September. In my last post, I mentioned the need for new blood. How am I going to do it? www.freelist.gr ? My recent posts on that website have proven fruitless. My son suggested Instagram might be more fruitful, but I’m reluctant to resort to anything owned by Zuckerberg. However, my principles have limits. For example, my sister and brother-in-law – fanatical Remainers – boycott Wetherspoons pubs because the owner, Tim Martin, is a Brexiteer. Like my sis and bro-in-law, I am also a Remainer, but with pints at under £2 in London, I can sometimes set my principles aside.
So, I might have to go down the Instagram rabbit hole between now and August. I am wondering if I should approach music schools near the pub. If we can find competent kids at intermediate level musically, Irish music is wonderful for scales, arpeggios and speed.
